The 2023-2024 awards season is officially off to the races, and we are back with our Awards Leaderboard because we live for all the season’s drama. We will be here after every major contest to recap every win all the way up until Oscar night. Also, check our Award Tours hub for more interviews, winners lists, and event recaps from critics groups, guilds, and industry honors.
Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer still tops our list with over 130 wins, including multiple wins for Editing, Cinematography, Score, and more than a few Actor prizes for stars Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. Very similar to Jane Campion’s walk toward a Best Director win in 2021 for The Power of the Dog, we expect the digitally averse Nolan to run away with that contest this year. Similarly, Ludwig Göransson’s march to Oscar night seems to be more and more assured as he is the current winner of the lion’s share of prizes thus far. Be sure to check out our interview with Oscar winner, on our newly launched Awards Tour Podcast.
Fresh off a very good night at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards, The Holdovers is still our second-place pick with an impressive run of wins from Supporting Actress contender Da’Vine Joy Randolph, plus a handful of wins for Lead Actor Paul Giamatti and the screenplay. Also, new this week, AMPAS ruled that Original Screenplay Barbie will have to compete in the Best Adapted Screenplay at the Academy Awards category this year, which means stiff competition to take home the statue but not impossible given their strong 3rd place showing on our leaderboard thus far.
We will likely have a very different list when we update again, but the season has begun, and we are more than ready to dive in. Which one of these wins will matter in the long run? Like our leaderboard, it is all still very much up in the air, but we will be here each week to keep you updated. So bookmark this page to stay in the know on which films take home the most prizes.
